Stink Rays

Chasing Sting Rays and taking Pictures is not easy. I think it is a two man job. Also it would be better in a dinghy, one driving and one taking the pictures. Next year. The Sting Rays were so thick we did not even want to swim or dive in the bay. So I decided pictures of Sting Rays Maiting would be good to show people. Well I hope you can see the Sting Rays?? out of 60 pictures I got two that you can see.

On The Road This Summer.

Hello everyone from Rocky Point. I am going to be on the road I hope all this summer. I plan on camping in Lake Tahoe and then head for Kelowna Canada for Taylors wedding. I then hope to drive to Fort Smith Arkansas and see our property and visit my Cousin. Then head on to Omaha and visit my Artist friend there and have the "Great Jerk Chicken Cook Off. As they say in Arkansas If the creek don't rise, I hope to head back to Las Vegas to see Jimmy Buffett perform. So get ready for some good picture's of the concert. Then if it is cooling down I plan on going back to Rocky Point and get the good ship "Grumpy" in shape to leave again in January.
Pictures: Barry freezing in June in the Sea Of Cortez. Sea Lion on the dock at Rocky Point. Bill my brother 29 birthday party, San Juanico. Juan Johnson with his Mexican Hat. "Grumpy" at anchor on the Island of Carmen. My brother Bill going into Angel Island for a short Rest.

Now after I have said all this I am having knee surgery so everything I plan on doing hangs on what happens with my knee surgery.

I do plan on taking pictures and writing about things that I think that will make you say "What is that" "Why" maybe a lot of Why's.

Last but not least I am leaving you this summer with pictures that I think you like to see. Maybe I see you this Summer.

Kayaking and having fun in Puerto Don Juan

Bill and I decided to get our Kayaks off the boat and get some exercise. We found a shrimp boat that had went a ground. We then went into another little cove that had another Shrimp boat on the hard and also cut in half.

I decided to take my under water camera and get some pictures from the Kayaks and have some fun. Bill had a bottle of wine and we headed for the grounded Shrimp boat. When we headed for the beach we saw hundreds of Sting Ray. We were told it was the mating season for the Sting Rays and they were everywhere and when they are mating they swim high or low in the water. Most of the time they are in the sand hiding and that is why they call wading into the beach the Sting Ray Shuffle.

I decided this would be a good picture for my blog so Bill and I went Sting Ray hunting with a camera. After about 60 picture's I think I have two I can use in this blog, it is very hard to get a picture, those big Sting Rays are fast.

I had to put in some pictures of what we live for when we are cruising. This sunset is one of the best I have seen. Bill and I were raised in the Coachella Valley right in the middle of the desert. We see the beauty of the baren mountains.

I have been asked to showa picture of our boats while we travel and I have one shot from the beach in Don Juan from where the grounded Shrimp boat is setting.

Huricane Hole "Don Juan" LA Bay

Bill and I traveled from Bahia San Francisquito to Puerto Don Juan. It is a very protected and great place to rest up. We then went to El Limona and spent three or four days, El Limona is in the South end of LA Bay, we enjoyed visiting friends and going to town to get our missing food back on the boat. We had a little rough winds the last night we were there and we decided to go to town and get on the Wi-Fi and get weather for our trip to Rocky Point. We made the decision to go back to Puerto Don Juan. We knew what ever happen it would be better then being wide open to a North winds.

Our decision was correct. Carlos Slim has his boats on mooring in the bay but here they come all three of them. Two smaller yachts and one big, we thought about 60' or so. Everyone anchored and then another Trawler "Voyager" came in also. So we had five boats to ride out the storm. The wind started about 3pm and it just kept building. When the sun went down and as it got darker the harder the wind blew. By about 11pm it was blowing hard. We estamated about 50kts. I had my Radar on and I put Bill and the other three boats were all on my Radar Circle. The 60' Yacht was behind me but I watched him also but not as much as the one's in front of me. Bill now he used his GPS to locate all of us and where he was setting and we both spent the night watching the Radar and the GPS. I think about 4am the wind changed to the West and now I am pretty clear of everyone. I looked at my Radar and the 60'Yacht was not on my circle, it was setting back farther and looked like it was on the ground but I said no it is that I moved. When the sun came up their sat the 60' Yacht on the beach. Bill and I decided now we go to Angel Island and we left Don Juan with everyone waiting for high tide to get the 60' Yacht off the beach. We took off with all the thoughts to get to Angel Island anchorage and sleep and get some rest for our over nighter. Only one problem the seas were still rough and we turned back after our 1.5 mile journey. When we got back the tide was coming in. The Yacht had a Panga hooked to it and people pushing and they got it cleared to start the engine. Which they were lucky and off they went. Before noon they were back. They spent one more night in the Hurricane hole. Since the winds calmed to nothing Bill and I got a great night sleep that we needed after the night before.

Sail Rock & Isla Angel De La Guarda

Isla Angel De La Guarda is the second largest island in Mexico. It has many anchorages and also is about thirty-five miles long. Bill and I left Don Juan a Hurricane hole in LA Bay heading our forty miles or so to Isla Mejia,Isla Division, Isla Granita all forming a well protected anchorage from all winds, using the main island Isla Angel De La Guarda as protection also.

As you approach the anchorage there is a Sail Boat setting about a mile off shore and the first picture was taken about three to four miles away. The second one was taken about a mile and the last picture was taken up close maybe fifty yards away as we head into Angel Island Anchorage. The last picture is of my brother as we head into the anchorage. We anchored here for three hours and we worked on the boats getting them ready for the long over nighter to Rocky Point. (Puerto Penasco) We left at 3pm and we arrived in Rocky Point at 5:30am. Made great time and I have to say it feels good to be back home.
